Reiki and Stress By Sarah A. Claud, RMT Stress! It’s an inevitable, ongoing part of our daily lives. Family, friends, finances… these are just a few of the stressors we encounter regularly. None of us want stress, but all of us experience it at some point in our lives. The trick is learning to cope with, manage or get rid of those aggravating feelings. How can this be done in the whirlwinds we call our lives? Reiki is an ancient Japanese hands-on healing technique that is a terrific tool for stress relief. Pronounced “ray-key” and meaning Universal Life Energy, Reiki is a healing system used to alleviate stress and promote wellness, and is not considered a religious or faith healing. Though very spiritual by nature, Reiki doesn’t conflict with anyone’s beliefs. It doesn’t matter who you are, your gender, religion, intelligence, nationality, or what your financial status is. Reiki is a gift of vitality and energy that can be offered to anyone by simply using the power of touch. By acting as a conduit for energy passage, a Reiki practitioner will work with the major energy centers of your body by placing his or her hands along key points of the body, sending energy into each. Localized warmth, tingling or pulsing are common sensations during this process. The recipient begins to feel more relaxed, and may even feel drowsy as the energy begins to flow through them, revitalizing their energy levels and creating new pathways through which energy can flow. Stress, grief, anxiety, anger - all may be lessened during a Reiki treatment. Clients suffering from Fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition, often report reduced pain as a result of Reiki treatments; many with difficulty sleeping find an improved capacity for rest. |
